Technical Communication

Technical communication is a term that encompasses a lot. To many, the first thing that comes to mind is computer documentation. But, technical communication is much more. It can refer to information that aids us in our jobs, information that is specific to a field, like medicine or the environment, or it can be instructional in nature, like manuals or documentation.

The purpose of technical communication is always to assist, in understanding and in doing. For example, if we need to accomplish a simple computer task (or a complex one), technical information can help. If we use specialized equipment, or if we need to communicate a specialized message, technical communication can help.

Good technical communication is efficient, or clear in meaning, expression, and style. Efficient technical communication helps its users accomplish their goals.
